When to Harvest Marijuana Plants
If you’re a new grower, it can be tricky to figure out when to harvest your marijuana plants. If you do it too early, you’ll risk potency, do it too late and your buds may become rotten. Growing your own cannabis plants can be tricky in this aspect but don’t fear, we’ll break down some of our best tips below.
When the leaves curl back, the leaves are yellowing, white pistils darken or turn amber-like in colour is an indication when harvesting may be due. Buds are harvestable once they have shown these signs but THC and CBD levels may not be to your liking.
Just because your plants buds show desirable characteristics from plain view, doesn’t mean they’re necessarily ready to be harvested.
How many weeks after switching lights to 12/12 will buds be harvestable?
Strains that are predominantly indica will take up to 8 weeks to finish flowering after switching to 12/12 lighting schedule, sativa can go for 10-12 weeks (true sativas will finish flowering in 16 weeks). Autoflower cannabis plants will automatically be harvestable 3 months from seed.
Wait for the resin to build up and use a magnifying glass.
When you peer through a magnifying glass onto your plant, you will see things you normally couldn’t from the naked eye. With a magnifying glass, you can see trichomes that appear to be mushroom-like in shape.
Trichomes are best observed through a microscope and shouldn’t be overlooked when it comes to growing high-quality cannabis in or outdoors.
When spotting for trichomes, look for small hair type outgrowths from your plant. Trichomes are whitish/greyish in appearance.
